As fast, secure and more modern payment options are available in Australia, the more Australians are choosing alternative payment options to cheques.

Cheque usage has dropped by more than 83% over the last 10 years and we are continuing to see the downward trend each month. The Australian Government has committed to phase all cheque usage out by 2030; however, we have made the decision to exit early, along with many other banks and credit unions.

As a member owned organisation, we must always consider the costs involved in providing a service to our members. Given the small number of members using this facility, we would have to significantly increase the fees involved in order for it to continue.

20 June 2025 is the last day GMCU can accept cheque deposits.

You will be unable to deposit cheques into any GMCU account after this date. You will need to go back to the cheque drawer and request an alternative payment option.

You can arrange for a direct deposit into your account via PayID or by providing your BSB and account number.
