Changes to the inward foreign currency cheque service

Due to changing member preferences, a global decline in paper cheque usage, and fewer in-person requests for foreign cheque and bank draft payments, we are updating our services.

Effective 5th January 2026, GMCU will no longer accept foreign currency cheques for deposit. However, you can still receive overseas payments via international funds transfer. Contact us for more information at 1800 MY GMCU (1800 694 628).

We partner with Convera so members can receive money directly into a nominated bank account from almost anywhere in the world in over 35 currencies.

Why use our Incoming Payments service over SWIFT payments?

  • SWIFT transactions typically incur fees on incoming payments
  • SWIFT payments can take up to 60 days to clear

Receiving payments from overseas?

At GMCU we:

  • Do not charge beneficiary deduct fees.
  • Are timely and reliable, funds are usually received in full in 2-3 business days
  • Have an exchange rate guarantee.

Lock in a competitive exchange rate for 72 hours. Your sender can pay you in their local currency, but you can still receive it in AUD.

When a member wishes to receive an international payment into their GMCU account, provide the following details to the sender (the person or business sending funds from overseas):

  • SWIFT Code: CUSCAU2SXXX
  • Bank Name: GOULBURN MURRAY CREDIT UNION
  • Bank Address: 91-95 Fryers St, Shepparton, Victoria, 3630
  • Account Number: (Use the member’s external reference number)
  • Beneficiary: (Account name as it appears on the GMCU account)
  • Address of Beneficiary: (Must be the member’s residential address—not a postal address)
